winter: a liturgy

Today is another day in the long cold winter.

Another day where the sun doesn’t sufficiently light up my home.
Another day spent inside with the lights on.
This winter is long.

I see the beauty of the snow but I can’t enjoy it.
The teeth-chattering bitter wind cuts to my soul.
I long for the warmth of a new season.

On days like this during seasons like these,
I find warmth in the simplicities of common life
in order to fend off this soul-crushing cold:
The warm embrace of my beloved.
The warmth of my coffee mug.
The warm memories of days before,
and the warm expectation of days to come.

For these, I give thanks. Amen.
